Shared cost group and budget category
Capital projects can be set up in two different ways, depending on how you want to monitor budgets and manage related projects. You can either manage the entire budget within a single project or use a setup that links multiple independent projects under one shared budget and cost structure.
This flexibility is useful for organizations that handle one main capital project that includes several smaller, linked capital projects. The shared setup allows you to define one budget and cost structure at the main project level, while planning and managing the smaller projects independently. In this setup, a main capital project defines the shared budget category and cost group. You can link multiple independent capital projects to this structure. Projects can only be linked to one budget category.
Each linked project:
Has its own planning and timeline.
Shares the same budget category and cost group.
Is treated independently for execution purposes.
To use this setup, link multiple capital projects to the same budget category and cost group. See Linking a capital project to a cost group and budget category.
