About Capital Projects
Capital projects involve the administrative control of large-scale investment projects (CAPEX) with allocated funds and multi-year budgets. In contrast, regular projects focus on small to medium initiatives that fit within annual budgets (OPEX).
Project management in Planon supports:
Creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) with project activities and milestones
Linking work orders, contracts, and reservations to WBS activities
Full integration with Work Orders and Contracts
You can monitor capital projects across key areas:
Finance: Track related funds, budgets, and costs
Planning: Use graphical Gantt charts and analyze critical paths
Scope: Manage activities and handle change requests
Quality: Monitor risks, issues, and corrective measures
You can start a capital project either in the Budgets TSI or in the Projects TSI. Depending on the customer requirements, there are two solutions, a light-weight model and an advanced model.
