Setting the number of decimal places for a currency
Most currencies are displayed with two decimal places, but some currencies, such as the Japanese yen, have zero decimal places, while others use three or four decimal places to display amounts. By default, amounts in Planon are displayed with two decimal places. This default value of two decimal places is set in Field definer . Planon allows you to deviate from this default and set a specific number of decimal places per currency. Amounts in that currency are then displayed with the number of decimals you specified.
| For more information, see the Field definer part of the documentation. |
Procedure
1. Go to Supporting data > Currencies.
3. In the Number of decimal places field, specify the number of decimal places to be used for this currency (a number between zero and six). If you leave this field empty, the default value from Field definer is used (two decimal places). For a description of the other Currency fields, see Currency fields. | You cannot change the number of decimals on the currency once this has been defined. If the currency is linked to a business object, changing the Number of decimal places field of the Currency business object from empty to a value will be permanent and irreversible! Important: if you add a contract line and register currencies, these currencies can no longer be changed once you click Save. |
Lease amounts for this currency are now displayed with the specified number of decimal places and with the currency symbol specified in the Currency's Symbol field. The commitments and postings are also displayed with this number of decimal places. Amounts you enter for a contract line and contract option are always in the context of the contract currency linked to the contract line (this does not apply to free fields).
| For contract lines that are not linked to a contract currency or functional currency, Planon uses the number of decimals set in Field definer . |
This feature is new in the L51 release. When upgrading to this release:
◦ There is no impact on existing lease lines. The amounts already stored in the database are not affected by the Number of decimal places setting.
◦ Currencies with zero or one decimals need to be defined before they can be linked to a contract line. If there already are contract lines linked to a currency such as the Japanese yen, which has zero decimals, the yen must have two different currencies after the upgrade: one based on two decimals and the other based on zero decimals. The zero decimal yen can be linked to new leases. The contract lines based on the yen with two decimals can be:
- continued as is, based on two decimals.
- exported, then change the currency and import this change.
- copied from the first open period. The new contract line can be linked to the new yen based on zero decimals and continued. The old contract line can be terminated on the last day of the closed period.
