About Resource Planner
What is Resource Planner?
The Planon ProCenter Resource Planner is a graphical scheduling tool designed to help planners efficiently assign work to field engineers. It provides configurable planboards where you can quickly match available resources with the work that needs to be carried out. In this context, resources refer to the tradespeople or field engineers who will perform the tasks.
Resource Planner displays orders and work assignments registered in the Work Orders TSI, including (but not limited to):
work orders
planned maintenance orders
move orders
any user-defined order types based on these system types
The resources available for planning are team members registered in Supporting data > Maintenance teams TSI. These teams can be made available in Resource Planner through the Resource Planner Configurations TSI.

For more information on creating and linking maintenance teams, see Creating teams and roles and Adding Resource Planner configurations.
What is the difference between Resource Planner and other 'Planners' in Planon?
Resource Planner is solely intended for assigning work to human resources (individuals or teams). It has no direct link with other 'planners' in Planon, like for example, Activity planner , which is designed for planning maintenance work for assets. However, the work that is generated from maintenance plans may end up as work assignments in Resource Planner.
Planon includes some other tools that are labeled 'planner', for example the graphical planners in Reservations or Projects . These do not directly connect with Resource Planner either.
Who are the Resource Planner users?
Resource Planner is a tool for two types of end users:
planners - people who assign work to teams or individual team members
resources - team members (internal tradespeople, on-site engineers, technicians) who do the actual work
Typically, planners are the owners of the configured planboards. Besides doing the actual assigning, they also have permissions to edit and create planboard configurations.
Team members can be given permission to consult the planboards that are relevant to them in Planon ProCenter . However, as they work on site, they will typically use mobile Planon apps to check and pick up their assigned work. The app interacts with the back-office features in Resource Planner and Work Orders. Via the app, they can update the status of their work assignments and keep the back-office informed of the progress.
Multiple planboard configurations per user
Resource Planner allows for multiple, authorizable configurations. It is possible to create configurations per team, per region, per country or per any other relevant criterion. You can switch between those Resource Planner configurations that are relevant to you, depending on your permissions in Authorization. The configuration settings determine which teams and team members are shown. Resource Planner users can also adjust parts of the screen as required, for example by switching the period view or showing and hiding columns in the Unplanned panel.

Resource allocations
Planon provides an additional licensed feature that allows for 'bulk planning' of work assignments for specific time slots, per resource. This means that you can pre-allocate specific periods on the graphical planner to the resources and drag the actual work into these allocated periods later.
