The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is an independent nonprofit organization that is responsible for establishing accounting and financial reporting standards for companies and nonprofit organizations in the United States. The FASB was founded in 1973.

For financial years starting after December 15, 2021, listed companies must apply ASC 842 to account for their leases, in replacement to the now deprecated ASC 840.
