Importing field data from CAD drawings
You can import parts of a CAD drawing into the Planon application by defining separators and their occurrences in the drawing element. This allows you to accurately extract data during the import process.
Overview
When importing a CAD drawing, you can specify which part of the drawing element should be used to identify the data. The mechanism uses a defined separator and its number of occurrences to extract the correct information.
| The mechanism is generic and can be used to import the data of any field you can import via a CAD drawing. |
How it works
The separator acts as a reference point in the drawing format. Both From and Up to are counted from the separator you specify.
| If you use a From separator, you must also specify a From occurrence. The same applies for Up to. |
Example
Suppose you need to import a space code and have a space name with the following format:
Location/Object code/Floor/Space number.
Example drawing name: ABDC-302-obj123/01/002.
In this case, the forward slash (/) is the separator. There are two occurrences before the space number. Therefore, the From occurrence would be set to 2.
The Up to setting works in the other direction. For example, if the drawing format is Space_Floor_Object and the drawing name is 002_01_ABCD, the Up to occurrence is 1.
Procedure
1. Go to CAD drawing definitions and create a new definition.
2. In the CAD drawing field, upload your drawing file from the CAD inbox.
3. Save your definition.
4. Go to CAD business objects and add a CAD-linked space.
5. In Details, under CAD business object mapping:
a. Select the object and specify the polyline where the space occurs.
b. Go to Field mapping and configure the following fields (if added to the layout):
- From occurrence
- From separator
- Up to occurrence
- Up to separator
c. Specify the drawing layer where the space is located.
6. Go to CAD import definitions and create an import definition.
7. In the Mapping between drawing and floor step:
a. Specify the drawing name.
b. Select the property and floor where you want to import the drawing information.
8. Go back to CAD import definitions, verify the configuration, and run the import via Run CAD import in the action panel.
9. After the process completes, review the import logs and details.
Verification
Once you've imported the drawing, you can verify the outcome in the application.
1. Go to Space and Workspaces.
2. Select your property.
3. On the Components level, select your floor.
4. Go to the Spaces level. The imported spaces will be visible, displaying their truncated space numbers.
