Planning details - schedule and scheduling method
At the Planning details level, you define a Schedule and Scheduling method for an activity definition. These two elements together form the planning details that are applied to the activity definition to generate or update Planned activities on the planboard. The selected scheduling method determines how start dates of future activities are (re)calculated, for example when you change the start date-time of an activity or when you set its status to Completed.
You start by defining the Schedules that you require. You can make a defined schedule reusable for other activity definitions by setting the field Activity definition exclusive to No. If you set it to Yes, the schedule is only used for the currently selected activity definition. See Adding planning details and generating planned activities for more information.
After defining and selecting a schedule, you can select one of the following Scheduling methods:
Variable - if you change the start date of an activity, the start and end dates of future activities scheduled for the activity definition are not affected.
Fixed - if you change the start date of a single activity, the start dates of future activities are changed accordingly. So if, for example, you set its start date to two days earlier, the start dates of the following activities are also set back by two days.
Fixed to completion - if you complete the activity or change the completion date of a selected activity, the start date of the next activities changes accordingly. For example, if you set its completion date to one month earlier, the start date of the next scheduled activity is also set back by one month.
